“Tiffany and Brandon’s Wedding Highlights Stray From The Norm”
Tiffany and Brandon were in for a surprise when I sent them their wedding highlights. I decided it was a good idea to edit their video to an ever increasing music genre called "dubstep". I actually took a huge risk editing this way before showing any proof of concept to them; for if they didn't like it, then I would have wasted my time. This edit was actually going to be a polar opposite had I not gotten sick, which forced me to not work for a few days. In that short span, a few things happen that made a shift in direction for this edit.
What is Dubstep?
- Dubstep - Noun /ˈdʌbstɛp/
- a genre of electronic dance music that originated in south London, England. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals".
Almost all of the edits we do here at Rustic Red Studio are emotional in the sense that they are intended to make you cry, in a good way. However, we also cater the way we shoot and edit based on the couple. It is them that we are doing this for right? While still maintaining our Rustic Red Studio feel, we try to make every video fit the couple and when a couple has the feeling of high energy, why shouldn't their edit reflect that?
Dubstep is a very high energy, deep and dirty music choice and the edit had to emulate that. This gave us the opportunity to really bust out some creative editing techniques that we don't normally get to fully utilize.
After Effects for a Wedding Video
Motion Tracking, Anamorphic Lens Flare, Title Sequences, RGB slide, Artifact Manipulation, and Analog Skew are a few of the effects that went into shots on this video. I don't normally do this simply because the edit doesn't call for it.
“...I don't do cheesy.”
I had to really support the edit through the use of effects this time around. However, I don't do cheesy. Never have and never will. I don't want what I do to make you cringe out of pure embarrassment, so I try to be effective and subtle in how I approach the edit.
I also got the opportunity to really push the color grading to some extremes that I wouldn't normally do. So all around this edit was really fun to work with and I'm super glad that Tiffany and Brandon like it...in fact they loved it.
“Omg omg omg omg omg omg!!!!!!!! We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! I cant even express how amazing it is... Thank you so much!” ~ Tiffany
I really went out on a limb here and put concept into reality before I showed the couple my idea. And it payed off.
I'm really glad that we got the opportunity to shoot this wedding and work with both Tiffany and Brandon. And in case anybody was wondering, they will be getting a full edit and it will be more of the normal "tear jerker".
